L'opera attraverso lo studio dei Quinque Libri, analizza dal punto di vista statistico il tragico evento della "peste barocca" che tra i mesi di luglio e settembre 1652 decimò la popolazione di Cargeghe, piccolo borgo della Sardegna settentrionale. Nell'arco di soli due mesi, su una popolazione approssimativamente stimata intorno alle 400 unità, furono circa 328 gli abitanti a perire nelle più inumane sofferenze. Tuttavia il villaggio non si estinse completamente e, seppur profondamente segnato, sopravvisse nel suo tessuto sociale negli anni a seguire.

The work, through the study of Quinque Liber, statistically analyses the tragedy of the "baroque plague" that ravaged Cargeghe’s population between the end of July and September 1652.
In Cargeghe, a small village in northern Sardinia, it is estimated that 328 individuals, out of a population of 400 individuals, perished with unbearable sufferings in just two dark months. However, the village did not become completely extinct. Although deeply scarred, it survived in itssocial composition in the years that followed.
